How to Find a Rug Cleaner You Can Actually Trust
Not all rug cleaners
are the same.
Learn the 5 questions every rug owner should ask before trusting someone with your area rug.
Some specialize in true in-plant rug washing like us here at Rug Worx in AZ. Others simply "steam clean" rugs like carpet. If you are investing the time, money, and trust to have your rugs professionally cleaned, here is how to protect your investment and ask better questions before handing your rug over to just anyone.
From Arizona rug owners to clients across the country, my husband Scott Gwilliam and I created this guide to help you find a cleaner you can actually trust.
Here are the 5 questions every rug owner should ask:

1. Can I physically drop my rug off at your facility?
A true rug specialist should be transparent about where your rug is being cleaned. If a company wants to take your rug out of the home for a proper cleaning, but cannot clearly explain where it goes or how it is cleaned, then this is a red flag. Keep asking questions or call someone else!

2. Do you dust rugs before washing them?
Most of the soil in a rug is dry soil, dust, sand, and debris trapped deep in the foundation and the rug fibers themselves. If this step is skipped, washing can actually turn dirt into mud inside the rug. If they don't thoroughly dust your rug before cleaning it, this is a waste of money IMO.

3. Do you fully wash rugs or just surface clean them?
There is a huge difference between a true in-plant immersion wash and "surface cleaning" or "steam cleaning" with carpet cleaning equipment. A proper rug wash cleans deep into the fibers and foundation, not just the surface.

4. Are you certified in rug cleaning and fiber identification?
Rug cleaning is not carpet cleaning. Different fibers, dyes, constructions, and contamination issues all require specialized knowledge and ongoing education. In fact, we customize the dusting steps, wash process, drying steps, grooming and detail work for every single rug!

5. What do their reviews actually say?
Do not just count stars. A big carpet cleaning company may have a ton of stars, but are they rug washing specialists? Read the actual reviews. Look for real customer experiences, rug specific language, communication, trust, and proof of expertise. Do the reviews say they steam cleaned the rug in the home, or they dropped it off at a facility for a full wash? You can find many of the answers you seek in the reviews.
